上海市外事翻译工作者协会成立于1987年1月，是一个群众性的学术团体，其业务主管单位是上海市人民政府外事办公室。协会拥有一支近千名具有各种专业知识的会员，以中、高级翻译为主体，30多语种（其中包括稀有语种如：葡萄牙、弗拉芒、荷兰、希腊、挪威、瑞典、匈牙利、捷克、波兰等）的翻译队伍。

     协会向社会各界提供口、笔译服务（包括同声翻译），是上海市公安局出入境管理处、上海市外经贸委以及上海市中级人民法院指定的涉外文本翻译机构之一。

Shanghai Interpreters's Association(SIA) was founded in January 1987. It is a mass academic organization. The organization in charge of the association is Shanghai Foreign Affairs Office of hte Shanghai Municipal People's Government. SIA has a membership of around a thousand with various professional knowledges. most of whom are secondary and senior interpreters of more than 30 foreign languages(some of them are not commonly used, such as Portuguese, Flemish,Dutch, Greek, Norwegian, Swedish, Hungarian, Czech and Polish).

The association offers oral and written translation service to customers at large(including simultaneous translation). It is one of the foreign translation organizations designated by Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Public Security, Shanghai Municipal Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission and Shanghai Municipal Intermediate People's Court.
